"I ran side by side with him without putting a mark on him. I was trying to
put a mark on him but I couldn't catch him." |
Second Verse, Same As The First For HayWire Racing. . . |
Tacoma, Washington –5-8-2010 – Haywire Racing headed to Southsound Speedway for Mother's Day weekend with two cars looking to put their season back on track after a subpar start in both divisions. Driver Donny Engh in the #29 Pacific Northwest Motor Freight / Western Trailer Repair / Airflow Systems / Brake & Clutch Oldsmobile Cutlass and driver "Terrible" Tim McDougald in the #68 KMB Design / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves / Cornwell Tools Toyota Camry were both looking for a little redemption after the opening nights for both left them trailing the pack. With his first race being a night of struggling with engine problems, Donny Engh and the #29 Pacific Northwest Motor Freight / Western Trailer Repair / Airflow Systems / Brake & Clutch Oldsmobile Cutlass looked to round two as a fresh start. Early in practice it was quickly apparent that the engine problems were still there as the team fought a recurring oil leak. Once the oil leak was under control, the team headed out for the Heat Race in the Street Stock division. Starting from the back, Donny quickly made his presence known as he moved toward the front. With only two laps remaining, and a firm hold on third place, Donny Engh was shown a black flag for smoking. Not the end to the run Donny were looking for. Once back in the pit, the trouble appeared to be a transmission that was falling out of the car. Loose bolts had sidelined the #29 Pacific Northwest Motor Freight / Western Trailer Repair / Airflow Systems / Brake & Clutch Oldsmobile Cutlass just moments from the checkered flag. After the crew made repairs to the car the only thing left was concern over the damage done to the seals. Starting once again from the back for the Main Event, Donny would run a more cautious race this time as the uncertainty of the damage was on everyone's mind. After only a handful of laps, that uncertainty became reality as the car developed clutch problems and Donny's night was brought to an end. Also on this night, driver "Terrible" Tim McDougald watched repeat of his opening night unfold in front of him and the #68 KMB Design / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves / Cornwell Tools Toyota Camry. Early troubles started at the shop, causing the team to arrive late and miss the early practice sessions with the #68 KMB Design / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves / Cornwell Tools Toyota Camry. Once back in the swing of things, the team went about making minor adjustments to the car getting it dialed in for the night. Progress was coming, bit by bit, until the final practice session when something in the rear end broke ending the night very early for the #68 KMB Design / Hargis Engineers / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves / Cornwell Tools Toyota Camry and driver "Terrible" Tim McDougald. "I feel like I just can't catch a break," said driver "Terrible" Tim. "We were making some progress on the handling and I thought it was going to be a good night. Then all of sudden, bang! And it was all over. Going into three I felt a jolt and the car jumped out of gear. When I tried to put it back in, it just made some horrible sounds and I knew we were done." Making the first two outings for the season and leaving with only two laps run total has been too much for the team to overcome. "I can't believe this early in the season we are out of it," said "Terrible" Tim. "But the reality is that we just can't make up that many points. It's too big of a deficit to overcome. I hate it for my guys, they worked hard and we had a goal for this year, but it's all over now." The team will be looking to sort out all the damage over the coming week and take a look at where they go from here. with one drivers season crushed, the hope is to salvage the other's. "Maybe we can get Donny back on track," said "Terrible" Tim. "I need to stop and catch my breath and see where I'm going to go from here. I don't know how bad the damage is, or what we can do to fix it. I may be done, I don't know." With a lot of work in front of them, the team will be looking for anything to get things back on track. |
