Tim began racing in 1991 at the now demolished Spanaway Speedway, starting out in the Hobby Stock class. It was here where the nickname “Terrible” Tim would be born from a joke, yet take on a life of its own. Proving in a very short time that Tim could drive with the best of them, he won multiple races in his rookie season.

After proving his talents there over his first three years of racing, Tim would move up a class to the Street Stock division. Against the higher level of competition, Tim again proved he had what it takes to run with anyone by winning multiple races in this class as well.

From 1997 through 2006 Tim would step away from the sport he loved to focus on family, his new wife and their young children. With the help of his family, Tim would return to the driver’s seat for the 2007 season where he joined the brand new touring series, the Limited Late Model Racing Series (LLMRS). This touring series would allow Tim to compete at multiple venues each season. Tim would use this new series to once again showcase his talents, winning twice in his rookie season in any form of Late Model competition. One of those wins would come on a track he had never even seen before. Multiple issues during the season left him 6th in the championship standings.

For 2008 Tim once again turned toward the LLMRS as his stage. He would win four times this season; two of those wins being Main Event wins, the other two being Trophy Dash victories. Tim would put huge pressure on the series’ defending champion all season long as he battled for the points title. In the end Tim would come up just short of his first career championship, finishing 2nd after having opened the season at the first event by setting Fast Time, grabbing a Trophy Dash win and then parking the car due to engine problems, spotting his competition a full event right off the bat. Tim still refers to this season as “The one that got away”. Tim would be named the 2008 “Sportsman of the Year” by the LLMRS series director, one of his most coveted awards.

Since 2009 Tim has found a new home at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington where he races under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banner. Tim welcomes the much higher level of competition and continues to strive toward meeting the high demands of his fellow competitors. Tim is still focused on winning races and challenging for that elusive championship.

Along with his competitive fire, Tim is an avid Social Media user, active blogger, published author and Contributing Editor who regularly writes for a National magazine publication. Tim works hard to continue building and improving the brand that is “Terrible” Tim McDougald.
